Learnings for future CFOs.
From a past CFO.
From CFO to executive educator.
As a CFO, my greatest fulfilment was the leadership aspect. The coaching, mentoring and upskilling of my teams.
After 10 fulfilling years of being a finance C-level, I realised that I preferred leadership to numbers.
Now a significant portion of my time is spent as an executive educator for high potential finance profiles.

Preparedness
Labelled as a high performer early in my career, I was still completely unprepared when put into my first C-level role.

In hindsight, a structured path to prepare for my own transition to C-level would have led to a much easier landing.

I am sure that what I felt I lacked in preparedness, many others also felt this too.

Many years later, I now have the knowledge of experience, to help prepare the next generation of finance executives.
Targeted
I was told by a mentor early in my career, 'What got you here, will not take you there'. And this was completely correct.

Technical expertise at C-level, is much less a translator to success compared to the roles leading up to it.

I target to put high performers into positions where they build the non technical skillset and understanding of how a CFO operates, and what it takes to stay one.

A finance targeted executive education, built on real life case studies, powered by finance professionals.

Break through the ceiling
From preparing the numbers, to deciding on the numbers
Post audit experience delivered technical competence to my senior finance management. Despite this, they often struggled to deploy their knowledge in a commercial operating environment.
The organizational complexity, politics and the requirement to navigate teams of differing stakeholder topics, often led them to hit a career ceiling.

They were trying to catch up on the non technical skills necessary to be successful in a finance leadership role.
